Description: The Roaring River Wilderness in the Mount Hood National Forest protects 36,550 acres around the wild and scenic Roaring River and South Fork Roaring River. Alpine meadows, placid lakes, and deep forests provide habitat for black bears, mountain lions, mule deer, elk, spotted owls, and pileated woodpeckers. Salmon and steelhead spawn in the rivers. Five trails lead into the wilderness.

Location: From Estacada, go east on Forest Road 46, West Cascades Scenic Byway, and turn left onto FR 4610, then right onto FR 4611. Forest Trail #517 leads across the wilderness to Serene Lake and Shining Lake.
